The hybrid system is composed of a photovoltaic matrix (PV) and a proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC). The photovoltaic array typically uses a maximum power point tracking technique (MPPT) to continuously supply the highest power to the load when variations in irradiance and temperature occur, making it an uncontrollable source. In coordination with PEMFC, the output power of the hybrid system becomes controllable. Two modes of operation, the unit power control mode (UPC) and the feed flow control (FFC) mode, can be applied to the hybrid system. The coordination of two modes of control, the coordination of the photovoltaic matrix and the PEMFC in the hybrid system and the determination of the reference parameters are presented. The proposed operating strategy with a change of flexible operating mode always operates the photovoltaic array at the maximum output power and the PEMFC in its high efficiency performance band, thus improving system performance, improving system stability and decreasing the number of changes in the mode of operation.
