Voltage drops and surges in the medium and low voltage distribution network are considered the most frequent type of power quality problems based on recent studies of power quality. Its impact on sensitive loads is severe. The impact varies from disruptions to substantial economic losses up to millions of dollars. Different solutions have been developed to protect sensitive loads from such disturbances, but the DVR is considered the most efficient and effective solution. Its attractiveness includes lower cost, smaller size and its dynamic response to disturbance. This research described principles of DVR and voltage restoration methods for equilibrium and / or unbalanced unbalanced voltages and swells in a distribution system. The results of the simulation were presented to illustrate and understand the performance of the DVR under voltage / voltage swell conditions.
