In this design, the total voltage of the arrester is applied simultaneously to all modules, so that the voltage-time characteristics of the arrester are considerably improved, ensuring reliable protection of medium voltage (eg 10 kV) overhead lines induced and direct lightning surges. It is found that a single LFA per carrier or pole is sufficient to protect an airline against induced overvoltages. An LFA must be arranged in parallel with each insulation to protect a line against direct rays.
A new simple, effective and economical method for lightning protection of the medium voltage aerial distribution line is the use of LFAs. A new model of long firewall has been developed.
It is designated as LFA-M. It offers a lot of technical and economic advantages. The important feature of this long modular firewall (LFA-M) is that it can be applied for lightning protection of the overhead distribution line against induced surges and direct lightning strikes.
Induced overvoltages can be counteracted by installing a single arrester on an overhead line carrier (pole). For the protection of lines against direct lightning loads, the arresters are connected between the poles and all phase conductors in parallel with the insulators.
