The ability to track vehicles is useful in many applications, including personal vehicle safety, public transport systems, fleet management and others. In addition, the number of vehicles in circulation worldwide is expected to increase rapidly. Therefore, the development of the vehicle tracking system using the Global Positioning System (GPS) and the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) is carried out with the aim of enabling users to locate their vehicles with ease and a convenient way. The system will provide users with the ability to remotely track the vehicle through the mobile network. This article presents the development of the prototype hardware of the vehicle tracking system. Specifically, the system will use GPS to obtain the coordinate of a vehicle and transmit it using a GSM modem to the user's phone through the mobile network. The main hardware components of the system are u-blox NEO-6Q GPS receiver module, u-blox LE-G100 LEON module and Arduino Uno microphone. The vehicle tracking system developed demonstrates the feasibility of near real-time tracking of vehicles and improved personalization, global operability and cost compared to existing solutions.
