A compressed air car is a compressed air vehicle that uses a motor powered by compressed air. The car can only be powered by air, or combined (as in a hybrid electric vehicle) with gasoline, diesel, ethanol, or a power plant with regenerative braking.
Gas is already the fuel of the past. It may not look that way as you fill up on your way to work, but the oil used to make is slowly running out. It also contaminates the air that is becoming increasingly unhealthy to breathe, and people no longer want to pay the high prices that oil companies are charging for it. Carmakers know all this and have spent a lot of time and money to find and develop the fuel of the future.
The search is on, but what will this fuel of the future be? Prefabricated fuels such as oil are becoming harder to find and automakers turn to greener sources of energy such as batteries. These batteries can be charged with energy and placed in a car where they can release that energy. As good as that idea may seem, some manufacturers think that air could become an even better source of energy.
