The coconuts are usually dehusked by machete or a spike manually. These procedures require skilled labor that is exhausting to use and the steps are used to develop dehulling tools. These are partially successful and are not effective in replacing manual procedures. The failure of these tools is due to an unsatisfactory and incomplete descaling, to the breakage of the coconut layer during the descaling, to the deterioration of the useful coir, to a greater effort necessary than to the manual methods, etc.
