ANALYSIS OF PERFORMANCE OF SINGLE- PHASE RELUCTANCE LINEAR MOTOR
Abstract
This article describes the design and principle of operation, and the electromechanical phenomena of a single phase induction motor. The motor has a primary part which is moving and a stationary secondary part which does not have any winding. AC or DC supply can be used to operate the motor. A capacitor connected in series with the coil must be used when the motor is fed from the AC source. Whereas, a controlled switch connected to the primary circuit must be employed when the motor is fed from the DC source. Now the operation is similar to that of a a linear switched reluctance motor.
The project aims at designing and testing the motor under the AC and DC supply. The determination of the resistance, the inductance and the mass of the primary part was the aim of the design calculations. finite element method was used for the purpose of calculating the primary winding inductance and magnetic flux density distribution. The MATLAB/SIMULINK
software package was used for the simulation of motor operation under the AC and DC supply.
