INTRODUCTION
POWER GENERATING SPEED BREAKER (PGSB) is an effort to meet the increasing demand of energy today. PGSB converts the daily traffic activities on the roads in to electrical power. In any nation, like India energy fulfillment forms a major factor in development. Whether Renewable or Non-renewable sources, these are insufficient to meet the future needs. PGSB is one of approach to meet this increasing future energy demand.
This format of power generation is not so famous in our country, but in other Western European countries it is been practically put in use. A scientist named Mr. Hughes recently, was able to produce 10 MWs of power which is used to power many road-side houses. If the project is used on large scale with required changes, surely the burden on the state electricity boards could be reduced and the saved power could be utilized for powering more houses, industries and other areas where the present power is either insufficient or is not up to the requirements. Moreover, the PGSB project is pollution free and once installed it generates power consistently just through the pressure sensed by the device whenever a vehicle passes over it. With the application of the present idea and more of its kind, the main aim of power
PRINCIPLE
POWER GENERATING SPEED BREAKER (PGSB) is based on the “Principle of Transduction”. According to this principle one form of energy is converted into another form. In POWER GENERATING SPEED BREAKER (PGSB) by using this principle two forms of energy conversion takes place. In the first form linear motion of the PGSB plate is converted into rotational motion using gear arrangement. In the second form this rotational motion is converted into electrical power using a generator.
WORKING
PGSB is fitted in the speed breaker of the road such that speed breaker can move downward linearly whenever vehicle crosses the PGSB. Due to the weight of the vehicle a force is exerted on the plates of PGSB.
SIMPLE MECHANISMS
Link:- a mechanism is made of a number of resistant bodies out of which some may have motions relative to the others.a resistant body or a group of resistant bodies with rigid connections preventing their relative movement is known as a link .
A link is also known as kinematic link or element. A link or element needs not to be a rigid body, but it must be a resistant body. A body is said to be a resistant body if it is capable of transmitting the required forces with negligible deformation.
Thus a link should have the following two characteristics:-
ADVANTAGES
The reason behind this to choose this project is the huge adoptable advantages we can get from it. All the advantages are very much acceptable in the present day situations. Some of the main advantages are discussed as:
FUEL FREE
As the PGSB does not use any fuel for its operation of power generating speed breaker like other ways of electricity generation for example coal, nuclear etc. so the PGSB does not depends on the requirements of fuel. So we can say this project is totally fuel free.
RENEWABLE SOURCE OF ENERGY
PGSB does not rely on previous conventional methods of electricity production. Here we are using mechanical pressure as an energy source, so this energy can be generated by human being or by vehicles & pressure will be easily generated at regular intervals. PGSB can be used for a longer period of time.
LESS SUPERVISION
PGSB is totally automatic and does not require any manual operation so no need to take care of this for every time period.
NOISE FREE
Number of equipments used in PGSB is very less so the chances of noise production is also very less as compared to other generation methods.
SPACE EFFICIENT
The whole PGSB arrangement is kept in a compact box and placed beneath the road. Hence, does not affect the normal traffic activities on road.
