Abstract
Steganography is the means of storing information
inside another message in such a way that hides informations
existence. A number of steganography algorithms have been
introduced using text, image, audio, video files as the cover
media. Among these, text documents have been widely used
for a very long time. This paper presents a new approach
for steganography in Hindi texts. Considering the structure
of Hindi alphabet/words.
INTRODUCTION
The application of computer in real life is increasing day
by day. So, the need to secure data is becoming more and
more essential part of message or data transfer. Information
security became a part of our daily life. Among the
different techniques, hidden exchange of information is one
of the concerns in the area of information security. Various
methods like Cryptography, steganography, coding and so
on have been used for this purpose. However, during recent
years, steganography perhaps has attracted more attention
than others.
Steganography is the art and science of hiding information
such that its presence cannot be detected [1]. In
steganography the secret message is encoded in such a way
that hides the informations existence. Paired with existing
communication methods, steganography can be used to carry
out hidden exchanges.
RELATED WORKS
This section describes some of the related works on
information hiding along with their advantages and disadvantages.
In Text Steganography by Hiding Information in Specific
Character of Words [10] approach, specific characters from
some particular words are selected to hide the information.
For example, the first character of every alternative word
hides the secret message.
Text Steganography by Line Shifting method [11], [12]
is another useful approach where lines are shifted vertically
to some degree. For example, lines are shifted vertically to
degree say α or −α. For the information is 1 and for α
information is 0. This method is appropriate for printed text.
Steganography of Information in Random Character and
Word Sequences method [13] generates a random sequence
of characters or words to hide the information. In Text
Steganography by Word Shifting method [11], [14], information
is hidden in the text by shifting words horizontally
and by changing the distance between the words.
PROPOSED TEXT STEGANOGRAPHY ALGORITHMS
Unlike the use of the letters of the alphabet as seen in
English or other European languages, Indian languages are
based on the representation of syllables. Text written in Indian
scripts has the general structure [24], S1S2S3 . . . SN,
where each of the Ses is an appropriate representation for a
specific syllable. Each syllable is made up of one or more
consonants and a vowel. A pure vowel is also considered
as a syllable. In absence of a combining vowel or other
consonants, pure consonants are difficult to pronounce.
CONCLUSIONS AND FUTURE WORK
In this paper, we introduce a new approach to Hindi text
steganography. The method for stegangraphy by shifting
the matra is based on the free spaces available to move
the subpart in Hindi scripts. On this basis, the information
is hidden in the text by shifting the ‘matra’ towards a
little right. This method can be used to exchange secret
information and text watermarking. Beside the electronics
text steganography, this method can also be applied to hard
copy. For this, after hiding the information we print the
documents. To extract data from the hard copy document,
first to scan the document and then unhide the information
by computer, using the proposed algorithm.
