(Facts) is a new integrated concept based on power electronic switching converters and dynamic controllers to enhance the system utilization and power transfer capacity as well as the stability, security, reliability and power quality of AC system interconnections
Series controller
The series controller could be a variable impedance, such as capacitor, reactor, etc
They inject Voltage in series with the line. As long as the voltage is in phase quadrature with the line current, the series controller only supplies or consumes variable reactive power
Shunt controller
Shunt controllers is also a variable impedance, variable source
All shunt controllers inject current into the system at the point of connection.
The injected current is in phase quadrature with the line voltage, the shunt controller only supplies Increased dynamic and transient grid stability and reduction of loop flows.
Combined series-series controllers
This could be a series combination of separate series controllers which are controlled in a coordinated manner in a multi line transmission system
