Introduction
Study of segmentation of MRI Spine Image is of very important for medical image identifying and clinical studies of neurological pathology.
In this project disk detection and segmentation method is proposed.
This method includes locating of all the disks through transforming the sagittal plane to the coronal plane.
What is Image Segmentation?
Segmentation refers to the process of partitioning a digital image into multiple segments (sets of pixels, also known as super pixels).
The goal of segmentation is to simplify and/or change the representation of an image into something that is more meaningful and easier to analyze.
Image segmentation is typically used to locate objects and boundaries in images.
Spinal Cord Injuries
Spinal Cord is a collection of nerves that travels from the bottom of the brain down the back.
Spinal Cord Injuries generally caused by compression of the cord by a tumor, infection or inflammation.
Major causes of spinal cord injury are :
Cervical Spine Fractures
Disk Dislocation
Disk Dislocation
The disks are protective shock-
absorbing pads between the
bones of the spine (vertebrae).
Although they do not actually
“SLIP”, a disk may split or
rupture
This may cause disk cartilage
and nearby tissue to fail
(herniated).
Arm pain from a cervical
herniated disk is one of the
most common spine conditions
treated by spine specialists.
