INTRODUCTION
Virtual reality has been an important issue in simulation
systems. This technique supplies us a way to watch, analyze,
and understand a system which is difficult to see in the real
world. Visual reality plays an increasingly important role in
flight simulation. The principal aim of flight simulation is
to provide a platform on which environments or technology,
either real or proposed, may be recreated for the purposes of
training, visualization and research. In the latest ten years,
many 3D flight simulation systems have been proposed for
various purposes including pilot training, scientific research,
games, and so on. These flight simulation systems include
the modeling and rendering techniques of 3D airplane,
clouds, airport, trees, pilots, flight tracks, terrain, buildings
and so on. In these systems, a most difficult issue is the
cloud because the cloud is a natural phenomenon and easy to
change, appear or disappear quickly, move with winds, and
so on.
CLOUD MODELING AND RENDERING
This section will introduce the integration scheme on
cloud modeling and rendering by particle systems. This will
produce the dynamic clouds in the scene.
A. Target of Designing the Particle System
We will put emphasis on two main targets of dynamic
cloud generation. One is flexibility because the scene is
interactive and all the attributes could be modified for being
adapted for change in the environment. That is, rendering
ways should be considered for lighting and external forces.
This change cannot affect other objects in the scene of flight
simulation, and not to be an obstacle to the implementation
of other algorithms. The other key is efficiency. This
modeling and rendering method of the clouds must be fast
enough for real time flight simulation. It is clear that, more
the quantity of particles is, the lower rendering speed is.
CONCLUSION
In this paper, we concentrate on how to generate dynamic
clouds for 3D flight simulation and proposed one scheme
of dynamic clouds generation especially for 3D real time
flight simulation. This scheme is customized according to
the requirement in the real time flight simulation because the
current simulations concentrate on static clouds and there
is a lack of interaction with clouds. We integrated some
typical methods including cloud modeling, cloud scattering,
and cloud rendering techniques, into one whole scheme
under the consideration with real time flight simulation.
