Tutor Marked Assignments are useful in improving learning skills to make the student gain knowledge easily and be a meritorious student. NIOS has developed various means and strategies to help the student learn and be a successful student. Tutor Marked Assignments (TMA) is one of these means TMA helps to develop regular study habits in students and give students the practice of writing answers to questions thus having a kind of essay in preparation for the final exam .

TMA is one of those tools that plays a very important role in the learning process through the Open and Distance Learning System (ODL). TMAs help students learn about their progress and level of achievement and develop regular study habits. They also assist in the design of diagnostic and remediation strategies during the Personal Contact Programs (PCP).
Your internal evaluation will be done through a Tutor Marked Assignment in each subject that will be in the form of a brochure. The tutors of the subject in the AIs will correct the assignments and provide feedback and suggestions for improvement. The TMA will also be uploaded to the NIOS website from which students can download them. From 2015-16, the Internal Assessment (IA) in the Secondary / Senior exam will take 20% of theory as a continuous and complete assessment. These marks will be displayed on the mark sheet along with external examination marks that will carry 80% weight on each item. TMA is applicable for admission via Stream-1 only. TMA must be submitted before appearing in the Public Examination of the particular subject.
