Introduction
In cloud computing shared resources, data and software are provided to computers on demand as with the electricity grid.
Cloud computing is location independent computing.
Pay-per use model.
No concern about maintenance and management of resources.
Public Cloud Services
The standard cloud computing model.
Public clouds are run by third parties and applications from different customers are likely to be mixed together on cloud’s servers, storage systems and networks.
Examples: IBM’s Blue cloud, GAE, Windows Azure service platform.
Hybrid Cloud
Combination of both public and private cloud models.
A private cloud with the resources of public cloud can be used to maintain service levels in the face of rapid workload fluctuations.
Public clouds can perform periodic tasks that can be deployed easily on private clouds.
Disadvantages of Cloud Computing
Data Security: Lack of trust between the users and vendors.
Relies 100% on network connections.
- requires a constant connection
- doesn’t work well with low speed connections
Data Mobility: If a client moves to another vendor can he take his data with him.
