A considerable amount of wind power is produced due to the difference in pressure created by moving vehicles on the roads. This wind energy can be used for the generation of electrical energy with the help of vertical axis wind turbines. This project aims to extract this energy in the most efficient way. The vertical axis wind turbine can be installed in the middle of the roads so that the wind on both sides of the median acts tangentially in the opposite direction on both sides of the turbine thus increasing the effective wind speed acting on the turbine. This wind flow will depend on the speed of the vehicle, the size of the vehicle and the intensity of traffic. Therefore, a detailed survey should be conducted to study these distributions. Based on the studies performed an optimal wind turbine design should be made. Wind energy harnessed through this technique can be used for street lighting, traffic light illumination, tolling, etc.
In today's life the demand for electricity is much greater than that of its production. One of the biggest problems since men realized is that natural resources are going to be finished one day and a replacement is found. In addition to fossil fuels play an important role in pollution, global warming and greenhouse gases. To overcome these problems, the incorporation of more renewable energy sources such as sunlight, wind and biomass is essential in the present century. Energy is very essential for the development of any nation. Global energy demand is increasing at a rapid pace due to rapid population growth and industrialization, while energy sources are depleting very rapidly. Currently, more than 68 percent of electrical energy is produced by thermal power stations where fossil fuels such as coal, diesel, etc. are used. When we realize that fossil fuels are going to deplete, we are trying to develop other means of generating energy.
