Computer-aided process planning (CAPP) is the use of computer technology to assist in the planning of one-piece or product processes in manufacturing. CAPP is the link between CAD and CAM, as it provides process planning to be used in the production of a designed part. CAPP is a link between the CAD and CAM modules. It provides process planning to be used in the production of a designed part. Process planning is concerned with determining the sequence of individual manufacturing operations required to produce a particular part or product. The resulting sequence of operation is documented in a form typically called a roadmap (also called a process sheet / method sheet) containing a list of production operations and associated machine tools for a workpiece or assembly. Manufacturing process planning also refers to the planning of the use of white space, spare parts, packaging material, user instructions (manuals), etc.
