The GRIHA qualification system consists of 34 criteria classified in various sections, such as Site Selection and Site Planning, Conservation and Efficient Use of Resources, Operation and Maintenance of Buildings and Innovation Points.
Eight of these 34 criteria are mandatory, four are partially mandatory, while the rest are optional. Each criterion has a number of points assigned to it. It means that a project that intends to meet the criterion would qualify for the points. The different certification levels (one star to five stars) are awarded based on the number of points earned. The minimum required points for certification are 50.
Eligibility
All buildings of more than 2,500 square meters (except industrial complexes), which are in the design phase, are eligible for certification under GRIHA. Buildings include: offices, commercial spaces, institutional buildings, hotels, hospital buildings, health centers, residences and high-rise multifamily buildings.

Process
I) Registration
• A project must register with the GRIHA Council through the GRIHA website, completing the online registration form.
• Enrollment should preferably be done at the beginning of a project, as several issues need to be addressed in the pre-design phase.
• The registration process includes access to essential information related to qualification.
Ii) Documentation
The evaluation system covers interdisciplinary areas. Submissions required to meet any particular criteria are developed in specific sections.
All documents (in soft version) related to the intent (criteria must be submitted with the application (pre-construction phase) Only the intent criteria will be reviewed.
The document covers the details required to apply for certification. The consultations in the qualification can be sent to info[at]grihaindia.org that will be answered within two business days.
Iii) Evaluation
Project documentation is evaluated online and is classified into a three-tiered process. After the online presentation of the documents, the preliminary evaluation is carried out by a team of professionals and experts from the GRIHA Secretariat, the GRIHA Council. Documentation must be complete in all respects for all criteria attempts. No attempt at criteria with incomplete documentation will be evaluated. Documentation formats are provided online for each criterion. Online calculators provided for specific criteria need to be filled out and submitted.
The GRIHA Council team first reviews the project's compliance with the mandatory criteria and rejects the project in case of non-compliance with those criteria.
The GRIHA Council team will evaluate the optional criteria and estimate the total number of achievable points. All compliance documents will be reviewed and reviewed through the evaluation process as indicated by GRIHA.
The evaluation report is sent to members of the GRIHA evaluation committee composed of renowned experts in the field of landscape architecture, HVAC design and lighting, renewable energy, water and waste management and building materials. The members of the evaluation committee will examine the points estimated by the technical team. The evaluation committee will independently review the documents for the award of points. The evaluation committee may use the summary evaluation report submitted by the technical team as a guiding document. The evaluation committee will award provisional points and also comment on specific criteria, if necessary. The evaluation report will be sent to the project promoter to review the project and, if desired, take steps to increase the score. The report will detail the results of the evaluation committee along with its comments. The report will provide comments on each criterion and a general comment on the full report. The client will be given a month of time to resend the document with the necessary modifications / additions. The submitted document will include only the additional documents / information that are desired in the evaluation report. Resumed documents will be re-submitted to the research process described above. The evaluation committee will then award the final score. The final score will be presented to the Advisory Committee composed of eminent personalities and recognized professionals in the field for the approval and award of the qualification.
