abstract
This study is a creative and initial work focused on designing an intelligently automatic detecting and
sensor system for home appliances being smartly interactive with mankind with speech in the living
space. Since the tide of automation flowed over the industry, manufacturing business, even the living
space of mankind resulting from shifting and highly developing of computer technique such as officeautomation
(OA), home-automation (HA), and Manufacture-automation (MA) etc. Though automation
spread throughout the manufacturing in last decade, there seemed no such equal attention with home
appliance. In this paper, the automation developed into the place where we spend most of our time
becomes a brand-new thinking.
Introduction
Automation has spread over many fields such as manufacturing,
offices, businesses, and buildings. But, it seemed that the place –
our living space – home got no equal attention, especially home
is the most time where we spend. Therefore, we try to take advantage
of our knowledge of automation combined with web-net to
make the home appliance become intelligent center that can play
not only its original role but also control other appliances by wireless
communication in home space instead of merely an appliance.
Since refrigerator is most frequently used by housewives in a
home, we want to invent an intelligent one which can automatically
detect the quantities of materials in it such as milk bottles,
drinks, soda bottles, eggs, bread, fruits, or the amount of irregular
shape such as vegetables, meats etc.
Previous related works and study purposes
The information techniques have been integrated and developed
fast recently, and from traditional techniques to latest
products such as PDA, smart phone, home appliance, and PMP
combining hi-tech computer, multi-media, and advanced information
technology. The document (Liao, Chen, Hsieh, & Hsiao, 2009)
mainly explored the integration and enhanced content of those
products with high-tech and those products are capable for service
more than those products with traditional techniques. By the innovation
and revolution of information techniques and shifting progress
of inter-net not only did those products increase inter-net
and digital application but also broadened the consumer behavior
and potential of marketing competition.
The initial idea of system structure
Automatically objects-detected system
With all kinds of sensors built in refrigerator and those detected
signals sending to microprocessor, the status and conditions
of objects in refrigerator would be judged by designed
programs and the status would be coded into information sending
to speech system and flat computer set on the cover of refrigerator
to show out the present condition of objects and give out
speech to remind the housekeeper so as to express complete
information of the refrigerator even no need to open it. That
means housekeeper need not open refrigerator then she could exactly
know the condition of it, and this result could get to energysaving
effect (Chuang, 2005).
Details of all functions
Fetching images of objects in refrigerator with CCD camera lens
as Fig. 3: after fetching the images with CCD, the images would be
sent to computer set on the cover of refrigerator and recognized its
kind and quantity. Whenever users open the door of refrigerator,
the image would be fetched once again and the later fetching image
would be compared with the former image to distinguish
what’s changed and showed the final recognition outcomes with
GIS interface and speech broadcasting system (Ray-Min, 2006,
2002).
