The Battery Detection Intrusion Detection System (B-SIPS) initially took an unconventional approach to intruder detection by recognizing attacks based on anomalous instantaneous current (IC) drain. A B-SIPS extension, the Multi-Vector Portable Intrusion Detection System (MVP-IDS) validates the idea of recognizing attacks based on anomalous IC drainage by correlating detected anomalies with Wi-Fi media wireless attack traffic and Bluetooth. To efficiently monitor Wi-Fi and Bluetooth media for malicious packet streams, Wi-Fi modules based on Snort and Bluetooth Attack Detection and Signature System (BADSS) were introduced. This paper illustrates how a combined strategy of using a low overhead cable can be combined with more sophisticated detection mechanisms to provide an effective protection system for resource-limited wireless information technology devices.
