GEARS
Gears are the device used for power transmission.
Gears are used for maintaining the velocity ratio.
Gears are used where the distance between the shafts is less.
Gears have lesser amount of friction.
Better than belt pulley system.
Gears are teethed elements .
Gears are used for torque transmission.
Types of gears
An external gear is one with the teeth formed on the outer surface of a cylinder or cone. Conversely, an internal gear is one with the teeth formed on the inner surface of a cylinder or cone. For bevel gears, an internal gear is one with the pitch angle exceeding 90 degrees. Internal gears do not cause output shaft direction reversal.
What is a gear ratio
A gear ratio is the ratio between the driver gear (the one being powered) and the driven gear (the one connected to the driver)
Gear Ratios are expressed as fractions and can be written a number of ways.
1 to 3
1/3
1:3
Always remember that the driven gear will turn in the opposite direction of the driver gear
GEAR RATIO
The gear ratio of a gear train is the ratio of the angular velocity of the input gear to the angular velocity of the output gear, also known as the speed ratio of the gear train. The gear ratio can be calculated directly from the numbers of teeth of the various gears that engage to form the gear train.
