Designers and car manufacturers have to pay attention to the overall competition of their products, compliance with legislative regulations and passenger / driver comfort while designing a car and its components. Designers can take advantage of efficient numerical modeling techniques so that before the prototype of the car is produced, the design can be modified and modified by using computer-assisted models to optimize the design with a goal of achieving low noise levels and vibration in the prototype.
The main factors that govern the automobile industry today are safety, efficiency and above all comfort, a lot of research has gone to meet the above objectives. NVH is the industry term used to cover the subject of vibration and sounds.
Automobile weight reduction is necessary to improve fuel efficiency, but this would worsen the vehicle's noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) characteristics, resulting in poor driving comfort. On the other hand, the use of cushioning materials to improve the characteristics of NVH would increase the weight of vehicles, resulting in poor fuel efficiency. Important sources of noise and vibration in automobiles are the engine, "external air flow, road profile and exhaust noise, power train noise." Among all these, the engine generated considerable noise and vibration in any of the states operating or stationary, therefore, we can consider the engine one of the most important sources of noise and vibration in cars.
