Metallurgy The industry that mainly transforms steel or its by-products into products with better surface properties or products of different shapes involves some processing tools that can often generate defects within the process. The primary purpose of this prototype is to provide a view of the entire surface of the pipe to the operator when the pipe surface is fully mechanized. Several lighting systems where they were tested to reveal the maximum number of defects such as tool marks, scratches, etc. The surface of the pipe is not smooth (rough), we found that homogeneous (diffused) lighting of the scene allowed a clear inspection of the surface of the tube and reveal most of the defects. We have taken nickel plumbing which are used for oil prospecting and deep-ground applications and the use of our optics along with the camera-vision machine which devised the right software so that inspection of the pipe surface is carried out in the inspection tool. Since the contact area of the tool on the surface of the pipe is one square millimeter, we divide the image of the pipe surface into several templates and analyze for defects such as micro dints, micro lamination or microfissure. The difficulties in the acquisition and analysis of images in real time are studied thoroughly and are exceeded. The software has all the options to improve the image, the analysis, the measurement and also the statistical options of process control.
