Traditional wheelchairs however have certain limitations with flexibility heavy weight of the chair and limited functions. Significant progress has been made in wheelchair technology. However even these significant developments could not help quadriplegics to navigate in wheelchairs independently. Medical devices designed to help paraplegic and quadriplegic patients are very complicated, rarely available and expensive. Our goal is to design a simple and economical automatic wheelchair with MEMS technology for quadriplegic with head and neck mobility. The control system translates the position of the user's head into directional speed and control of the wheelchair. The system is divided into two main units: MEMS sensor and programmed PIC controller. The MEMS sensor detects the change in the direction of the head and, consequently, the signal is given to the micro-controller. Depending on the direction of the acceleration, the micro-controller controls the directions of the wheelchair as LEFT, RIGHT, FRONT and BACK with the help of DC motors.
