This model implements an AC-DC 6-pulse thyristor converter and demonstrates the advantages of using ARTEMIS real time compensation of switching event (RTCSE) to obtain accurate simulation of converter fast switching dynamics.
This circuit is an AC-DC 6-pulse, thyristor rectifier connected to a DC-motor equivalent model. The thyristor controller is a PI feedback control used to control the current of the equivalent DC-motor model.
This converter circuit topology exhibits fast switching dynamics, in simulations with relatively large fixed time steps which can cause multiple switching events in a single time-step. The RTCSE algorithm of ARTEMIS deals well with this type of circuit with no extra computational time, as compared with a single-event case [17].
Various phenomena can be studied in this model: the dc-motor equivalent model can be replaced by a detailed motor model; PI control parameters can be adjusted for optimal motor control; and effects of thyristor misfire on the motor drive can also be studied.
