The project is to develop a web-based inventory management system for a fictitious company called Ever Good Pte. Ltd. The main objective of the web-based system is to improve on the current manual inventory management process by automating the process through a web-based application. The system has a lot of useful features that make it easy to monitor inventory and use for all level of users.
The report first identifies and analyzes the system objectives of the inventory management system to be implemented. User and business requirements is gathered at the next stage. A system development model based on a waterfall's approach is used to manage the system project.
Data modeling design is established on the database before moving to web development. Adobe Dreamweaver web design software is used for coding and creating the web application.
The system was developed using PHP as the main development language and Apache as the web server. The reasons for using these technologies is due to their reliability, flexibility and cost-efficient advantages. MySQL is chosen to be the DBMS of the system, with regards to its flexibility and leading database choice for PHP-driven projects. All the chosen technologies are widely used and most importantly, they're very cost effective as they are free to use. These technologies are all open source software (MySQL, Apache, and PHP) and does not require any registering or purchasing of any kind, except for MySQL commercial version.
Project management processes based on Plan-Do-Check-Action (PDCA) cycle and necessary project tools such as WBS, Gantt Chart are used to manage the life cycle of the project
