AUTOMATED STUDENTS RESULT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
CASE STUDY: UNIVERSITY OF BENIN
ABSTRACT
The current student management system in existence is now too old. In addition, it does not in many instances hold the range of data fields now required to manage an efficient, singular source of student data and result management. As a result many satellite systems have emerged and central data is maintained in multiple places. This causes administrative difficulties and places an unnecessary burden on staff.
The scope of this project presented is a novel approach for fulfilling the criteria of data accuracy which includes authentication, privacy, integrity, non-repudiation which are fulfilled through carefully selected policies. Student data adequacy is achieved using the secure socket layer protocol for web communication with a web server. Each user being student or academic /administrative staff is provided with unique user name and initial password in the Student Result Management Information System. The novelty of implemented solution is based on extending the subject name certificate for securing information and grades which is in full compliance with the law of information society, hence enabling adequacy in the Student Result Management Information System.
OPERATIONS OF THE PROPOSED SYSTEM
The software is intended to mimic the present manual system. The software application developed to manage students’ result records in the department of a given tertiary institution. There are two set of system users, these are the staff and the students. The staff are the managers of these information while the students can be said to be suppliers of these managed information.
The system enables the following functions;
Uploading students passport photographs.
Entering students information.
Storing these information.
Provide update result view.
Transferring these result records at different levels.
Disposing the information as at when required.
Authoritatively granting access to staffs concerned with the students record.
Now, for us to make provision for this, this application will consist of two basic system parts, these are, the Front End set of user friendly interfaces and the Back End database management system. This front End interfaces allow system users view, query, update, and delete information stored at the Back End database.
