Introduction
Children are tend to make initial career decisions during their childhood.
Early childhood experiences emphasize them to formulate personality and attitude of adults.
Career preparation during this period focus on developing greater self knowledge and awareness about occupations.
Responsibilities Teachers In Career Education:
Devise methods and materials designed to help pupil to understand and appreciate the career implications.
Utilize career oriented methods and materials in the instructional program.
Help students to acquire and practice good work habits.
Help students to develop, clarify and assimilate personally meaningful set of work values.
Responsibilities of school and board members:
Emphasize career education as a priority goal.
Provide leadership and direction to the career education program.
Involve communities in career education.
Provide time, materials and finances for implementing career education program.
Revise curriculum to integrate academic, general and vocational education.
Responsibilities Career Counselor:
Help teachers to implement career education.
Act as a liaison between the school and the business industry.
Help to implement career education in family.
Help students in making and implementing career decisions.
Participate in job placement programs.
The five tasks for early childhood are :
The need to learn sex differences and sexual modesty.
The need to achieve physiological stability.
The need to form simple concepts of social and physical reality.
The need to relate oneself emotionally to parents, siblings and other people.
The need to learn to distinguish right and wrong and to develop a conscience.
Cognitive development:
Children between 2 and 5 are moving from using preoperational to concrete operational thought.
Children from 6 to 12 year old group uses concrete operational thinking which is characterized by decentration, classification and seriation.
Relationship with others:
Preschool children’s personalities are influenced by their relationships with their parents.
Primary grade student’s family structure may have an important influence on their development.
Children are often greatly influenced by the change in family structure.
Developmental Outcome for 4-6 Grade Students:
Be able to demonstrate concern and respect for feelings and interests of others.
Be able to distinguish between self characteristics and group characteristics.
Be able to demonstrate tolerance and flexibility for interpersonal relationships in group situations.
Be able to demonstrate contributing competencies in group situations.
Be able to relate values to interpersonal communication.
Important Characteristics of Elementary School Children:
Television inhibits the social development of children and encourages them to be passive recipients of information.
Children decrease in their involvement in free play, reading, hobbies and other activities.
School is a powerful socializing influence.
Boys are heavier and taller than girls throughout their lives.
Children are mastery oriented and accept the responsibility for their actions and behavior.
