Analysis of Thermal Distribution in Brake Drum of Maruthi Alto
Abstract
Brake drum is the major part in automobile. When inner dia (BSA)of brake drum is im proper it will leads to break failure. This inner dia is perfect whiling in manufacturing but during working condition it will damage due to producing of over heat in brake shoe area while breaking at high speed .so due to friction between drum and brake shoe the BSA will be loose their mechanical property by intermittent heating. In our project we can find thermal distribution of brake drum and cooling rate of the brake .then optimization can be taken for increasing the Cooling Rate. So this cooling rate is increased by the changing the geometrically property of the Brake Drum . This leads to reduce the loss mechanical property of materials
This paper reports a study carried out using 3-D modeling and finite element analysis for brake drum .Using Unigraphics as a 3-D modeling software the 3-D model of the various tyes of cooling Method. Using Neutral file format the model was imported into Ansys.
Here the solid model was converted into Finite Element model. Boundary conditions such as maximum temperature of the cylinder, convective heat transfer coeffcient, ambient temperature and material properties such as thermal conductivity of the material are used as set of parameters for the program. Heat flux and temperature profiles were used as measure of efficiency.
