What is an alcoholic beverage?
A beverage that contains a portion of ethanol. (CH3CH2OH)
Ethanol is produced by a process called fermentation - the metabolism of carbohydrates by certain species of yeast in the absence of oxygen
Alcoholic content
Alcohol by Volume (ABV)-is an indication of how much alcohol (expressed as a percentage) is included in an alcoholic beverage/ expressed in degrees Gay Lussac
Alcohol by Weight
ABV = 1.25 × ABW
or, inversely:
ABW = 0.8 × ABV
Proof (roughly twice of ABV) expressed in proof.
