ll database systems must be able to respond to requests for information from the user - i.e. process queries. Obtaining the desired information from a database system in a predictable and reliable fashion is the scientific art of Query Processing. Getting these results back in a timely manner deals with the technique of Query Optimization. The major contributions of this Dissertation are: 1. Understanding mechanism of query processing with respect to user inputted query (SQL) in various forms. The query is analysed and processed and finally relational algebra is developed for every SQL statement. 2. Understanding mechanism of query optimization where analysed query in form of relational algebra is encrypted, processes makes relational algebra tree and finally optimize the final tree from various relational algebra tree. This methodology can be applied to any database engine where cost, time and utility of database is optimizing in proper manner.
