INTRODUCTION
This project aims to develop a robotic arm capable of sorting different color balls. This project
basically consists of three parts
1. Sensor unit – color sensor
2. microcontroller
3. servo motor
SENSOR UNIT:
Sensing is done using color sensing IC ADJD-S37,which is a cost effective, 4 channel digital
output RGB+CLEAR sensor in miniature surface-mount package with a mere size of 3.9 x 4.5 x #.8
mm. It is an IC module with combination of White LED and CMOS IC with integrated RGB filters +
Clear channel and analog-to-digital converter front end.
MICROCONTROLLER:
We use PIC micro controller to develop this system, one of the most popular micro
controllers on the market. The 16F877A Micro controller includes 8kb of internal flash Program
Memory, together with a large 368bytes RAM area. It can work up to 5Mhz speed and RISC
architecture accounts for its popularity. Peripherals like ADC, Timers and PORTS are ideal for this
project.
SERVO MOTOR:
A Servo is a small device that has an output shaft. This shaft can be positioned to specific angular
positions by sending the servo a coded signal. As long as the coded signal exists on the input line, the
servo will maintain the angular position of the shaft. As the coded signal changes, the angular
position of the shaft changes. Here in this project we use 6 servo motors.
Working:
The color sensor interfaced to the microcontroller sends the intensity of red, green and blue of
light reflected from the object placed in front of the robot. Robot picks up the ball and places it in
corresponding boxes. Eg: Red ball in red box.
