Co-operatives
Cooperative means a jointly owned commercial enterprise which produces as well as distributes its goods and services. These organizations are generally formed and operated for the benefit of those who are associated with it. Especially dairy co operatives like Amul and others have provided financial independence and solvency to thousands of rural folk of India. The co operative movement in India has been specifically encouraged and nurtured by the Indian government as a means to accelarate the progress of Indian economy.

A cooperative is defined by the International Cooperative Alliance's Statement on the Cooperative Identity as "an autonomous association of persons united voluntarily to meet their common economic, social, and cultural needs and aspirations through jointly owned and democratically controlled enterprise".
