Gasoline Direct Injection
The GDI consists of the following four basic features.
Upright straight intake ports
High pressure fuel injection pump
High pressure swirl injector
Curved top piston
Advantages of GDI
Low HC emission .
Improved antiknock quality and volumetric efficiency.
It overcome the disadvantage of the MPI method which causes delay in sending fuel.
Fuel injection in the first half of compression stroke greatly improves lean limit
Exhaust Gas Recycle (EGR)
EGR was applied to the direct injection to study the effect on emission of various gases.
The effect of EGR was also studied on different GDI engine to understand the effect of misfire in the engine.
The investigation on the influence of the injection-to-ignition interval on the ignition stability when the ignition timing was kept constant and the injection timing was varied.

CNG fuel in GDI
The use of alternate fuel was also done in GDI. The whole combustion process was simulated in the software considering all the aspect of the process. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) was used to generate the whole process.
The results of CFD simulation were then compared with the data obtained from the single-cylinder engine experiment and showed a close agreement. For verification purpose, comparison between numerical and experimental work are in the form of average in-cylinder pressure, engine power as well as emission level of CO and NO.
