EHF Satellite Communications-on-the-Move Blockage Channel Modeling
ABSTRACT
In the next-generation Transformational Satellite Communications System, one essential element is to provide satellite
communication to on-the-move terminals, which suffer from intermittent channels due to blockages by objects in their
environments. Presented is our approach for modeling these blockage channels for different environments, in order to allow
accurate prediction of system behavior via numerical simulation or symbolic analysis. In particular, we focus on the scenario
of link-layer ARQ (automatic repeat request) and the simple two-state Markov model is amenable to symbolic analysis, but
is less accurate, while a more complex mixture model leads to better predictions, but can be studied only via numerical
simulation. We also introduce a new memory-decay curve concept for the characterization of channel memory and the
estimation of model parameters.
