All parts of this question are compulsory. 5×2=10
1.
(a) Explain perfect, imperfect and redundant truss.
(b) How force is transfer into parallel force and couple?
© What are the assumptions in the analysis of truss?
(d) What is support? Explain types of support.
(e) Define angle of friction and angle of repose.
2.
(a) A homogeneous cylinder of 1.2m diameter weighing 4800N rest on two rough inclined surfaces shown in figure (1). If angle of friction is 20° for both the surfaces. Determine magnitude of couple M required to be applied to cylinder to make it start clockwise.
(b) One block of weight 500N is kept on a rough surface and attached to the one end of a belt. The arrangement is shown in figure (2). If the coefficient of friction between all the contact surfaces is 0.26, find the minimum force P to just move the block.
© A pulley of 1m radius supporting a load of 500N is mounted at B on a horizontal beam as shown in figure (3). If the beam weight is 200N and pulley weight is 100N. Find the reaction at the support A and C.
