3rd Concentrated Solar Thermal Power Summit India
Indian CSP – Boom or Bust?
The announcement of the Jawaharlal Nehru
National Solar Mission (JNNSM) in January 2010
lit the keg that sparked the Indian solar industry
to life with both international and dedicated
local players fighting to become a leader in
this emerging market. The ambitious plan
launched under the JNNSM set the target of 20
GW of installed solar power by 2022. In the first
phase, 1 GW of grid-connected solar energy was
targeted for 2013 with 50% of the solar initiative
tendered towards Concentrated Solar Thermal
Power (CSP) technologies, which opened doors
for fast development.
The Phase 1 bidding process under the National
Solar Mission was completed in December 2010
with more than sixty companies submitting bids,
a sure-fire sign that Indian CSP was gathering
pace. In addition the plans under the JNNSM to
develop India’s R&D efforts and transform the
country into a solar manufacturing hub seemed
unstoppable.
Secure the Future of Indian CSP
Of course, with such an ambitious target
under the JNNSM countless hurdles
have been apparent, and if India wants
to secure its place as a CSP powerhouse
then they must be overcome… and fast!
