Abstract
Telemetryis the highly automated communications process by which measurements are made and other data collected at remote or inaccessible point and transmitted to receiving equipments for monitoring, display and recording.
Originally, the information was sent over wires, but modern telemetry more commonly uses radio transmission. Basically, the process is the same in either case. Among the major applications are monitoring electric-power plants, gathering meteorological data, and monitoring manned and unnamed space flights, missiles& rockets. Although the term commonly refers to wireless data transfer (e.g., using radio, ultrasonic, or infrared system), it also encompasses data transferred over other media such as telephone or computer network, optical link or other wired communications like phase line carriers. Many modern telemetry systems take advantage of the low cost and ubiquity of GSM networks by using SMS to receive and transmit telemetry data.
Telemetry system is the process by which an object’s characteristics are measured (such as velocity of an aircraft, missile), and the results transmitted to a distant station where they are displayed, recorded, and analyzed. The transmission media may be air and space for satellite application, or copper wire and fiber cable for static ground environments like power generating plants
