Plasmadynamics and Lasers
ABSTRACT
This annual review article explores some of the numerous research and technological efforts in the development of
Plasmadynamics and Lasers, including the development of applications using these two technologies. In the area of
Plasmadynamics NASA is developing the high power thrusters that are being considered for anticipated deep space missions.
One example of this development is the Variable Specific Impulse Magnetoplasma Rocket (VASIMIR). In the area of Laser
Technology much emphasis has been placed on the development of electric lasers. This development facilitates electric laser
use in remote sensing. industrial cutting and welding, communications, planetary science missions, and military weapons
systems.
