PREFACE
In Today’s world there have been lots of developments in the fields of Engineering and Technology.
The Building engineers are being exposed to the best of theoretical Knowledge in their respective institutes but to gain hands on practical experience on latest developments, industrial training programs in the only assets that one can rely on.
It has been a wonderful experience to be practical trained in this big organization and I have learned a lot from engineers at HMT Pinjore.
By this we also get to teach a lot of new things which plausibly our books would never have been able to teach us.
With the kind of technical knowledge and work experience, which we will be gaining during six weeks of our industrial training, will surely serve as a panacea for the competition ah

COMPANY PROFILE
Hindustan Machine Tool (HMT Ltd.) was established in India in 1953 in Bangalore in collaboration with Horleican Machine Tool, a German firm. The focus of the firm at the time was at the construction of the machine tools. Steadily different units of HMT Ltd. Were established throughout the country.

Apart from the above mentioned, various other watch manufacturing units of HMT Ltd. have been established. HMT has been the pioneer watch manufacturers of the country. Some of the units are enlisted below
HMT UNIT –3 OR HMT LTD. PINJORE
HMT Unit -3 or HMT Ltd Pinjore was established in the year 1963. Initially it was set as the machine tools manufacturing unit. The HMT Ltd Pinjore started its ventures with the manufacturing of milling machines. Different models of the milling machines manufactured are enlisted below

In the year 1971, however, the unit collaborated with the Czechoslovakian enterprises-Motkov and started a tractor assembly division. Initially Zetro tractors were produced in the unit with the power of 25 BHP. The collaboration extended till 5 years and after that the unit started indigenous tractor production.
The first tractor units produced in HMT Injure were named `HMT-ZETRO’. Ever since there have been different types of tractors produced that are enlisted as

PATTERN AND FOUNDRY SHOP
Pattern shop:-
A pattern may be defined as a replica or model of the desired casting. The pattern shop is the first step to that of process of foundry. Here patterns are made which are further used for making castings. Thus the final casting and hence the actual machine component depends to a large extent of the pattern.
Pattern materials:-
1. Wood:-
The patterns made for the machine tool castings are generally made up of wood as the machine tool require massive castings and the metallic patterns increases the shrinkage and hence the material cost increases. Unlike metals, Wood is easily available and can be shaped easily and economical. Although, it wears out quickly and the dimensional accuracy is lower as compared to metals. The wood used for making the patterns at HMT is generally teak wood.
2. Metals:-
The patterns made for tractor and automobile unit are metallic as the number of casting is very high and a high dimensional accuracy is required. They have a long life and hence can be used repeatedly.
Common metals used:-
-Cast Iron
-Aluminium
3. Araldite:-
The patterns are used for mass production or in other words when a large no. of castings is required to interrupt. The main advantage of araldite pattern is that it has no effect of seasoning on it moreover it can be appreciably used on other whether conditions as well and no special precautions are required for its storage. The pattern from which araldite pattern is casted is called master pattern.
4. Thermocol:-
Thermocol patterns are made when no. of casting is very less i.e. only, two or three. Advantage of thermocol patterns is that, they are very cheap, light in weight and easy to work upon. Therefore, they can be given any desired shape but main disadvantage of such pattern is that they are not durable. They get damaged after producing two or three casting.
