TATA COFFEE was started on 1922 in Bangalore, India.Tata Coffee is coffee company owned by the Tata Group. The company owns 19 coffee estates in Southern India. The estates are spread across the districts of Coorg, Chickmaglur and Hassan in Karnataka and Valparai district in Tamil Nadu.
Tata Coffee Limited (TCL) is a coffee plantation company. The Companys operations include coffee and other produce, which comprises coffee, pepper, tea and other plantation crops and conversion of coffee into products, such as roast and ground coffee and instant coffee.
It is also in the business of curing operations of coffee and trading items required for coffee plantations. It has four segments: coffee and other produce, tea, estate supplies and others. During the fiscal year ended March 31, 2008 (fiscal 2008), the Companys tea production in two estates in Karnataka was 6.59 million kilograms.
The Companys overall coffee production during fiscal 2008 was 8004 million tons. Its Arabica production was 2233 million tons and Robusta was 5771 million tons.
The Companys Curing Works at Kushalnagar handled a total of 11,247 tons in fiscal 2008. It exported 3615 million tons of coffee in fiscal 2008. Its subsidiaries include Eight O Clock Coffee Company and Alliance Coffee Limited.
