ABSTRACT:
With headway of automation technology, home automation put forward over manual system. With Internet of Things(IOT), home automation can be further improved that one can operate automated devices from anywhere through cloud storage. It implements wireless home automation system through IOT to control home appliances using computers or mobile phones from anywhere in the world.
In this paper, I present a Home automation system combination with Internet of things that incorporate remote control of various appliances
INTRODUCTION:
As we are in 21th century, a modern busy world, people require everything automated for there comfort. Therefore, Home Automation will provide there comfort.
Home automation is well known concept that is applied in various places but through wired communication. So this should be fixed well in advance during wiring the building. So cost becomes more. But with the improvement in wireless technology, it is easily incorporated using WI-FI network.
ADVANTEGES OF HOME AUTOMATION:
As wireless system becomes a usual one, home automation using Wi-Fi has several advantages over wired.
Decrease in Installation Cost: Since no wiring is necessary in this system, the cost of cabling and its material are reduced. Wiring material for cabling cost is more expensive.
System scalability and extension: Using wireless network is an advantageous one as if there is a need for extension of system, it becomes easy to add it. This makes this system an influential one.
Attractive benefits: As historic and modern glass building, adding additional cabling makes it tedious, wireless automation maintains its beauty.
Addition of mobile devices: Along with wireless network, addition of mobile devices with automation system makes it available everywhere and at any time
For all these reasons, wired technology is a gift for installation along with restoration and refurbishment
SYSTEM ANALYSIS:
I. Problem definition:
Home automation has certain challenges such as high cost of possession, inflexibility, security achieving. The main research in home automation is to control and operate home appliances using manageable web interface. This system uses Wi-Fi network to interconnect various sensors to the server.
II. System features:
The system consists of server and various sensors. Server is used to operate and monitor various sensors. To interface system devices with Wi-Fi, Intel Galileo development board is used. Wi-Fi card port is used as web server. Automation system can be accessed through browser from PC using IP address. Wi-Fi is preferred to improve the security system.
I. Home Automation System:
The system consists of temperature sensor, gas sensor, motion sensor, LDR connected to internet access. When connection is given, it reads every sensor parameter and gives the reading accordingly and threshold levels required for sensors are set. The data are sent to the cloud and stored and can be analysed anytime, anywhere. In this model, if there is a temperature rise or gas leakage or any motion or high intensity of light are monitored constantly from cloud and stored. If temperature sensor data exceeds optimum value cooler is switched on automatically, if gas sensor sends some value alarm is triggered to alert, if motion sensor sends data, it is monitored, if LDR sensor senses high intensity of light, it switch off the light that are unwanted. If there is any appliance running without requirement, it can be switched off remotely.
II. Home Automation Function:
The automation system works on following aspects,
• Room temperature condition
• Fire and smoke detection
• Light level
• Motion detection
• Light On/Off control
• Fan On/Off control
• On/Off of different appliances
III. Software design
HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) is used to display the web page. With special tags, it is used to interpret and display the information. It has extension as htm or html.
Cloud storage is used to store the data in certain logic. Cloud storage provides the data that we have stored whenever required and available all the time. It is interface through API (Application Program Interface). According to the service we seek and based on payment they provide one of the service (Infrastructure as a service, Platform as a service, Software as a service).
The sensor senses the parameter and sends the data to cloud as p1,p2,p3etc,… The threshold level is set to t1,t2,t3,.. The data stored in the cloud can be analysed anywhere at anytime and sets the alarm if anything abnormal in the system.
The setup contains the motion sensor at the door and senses the motion and sends to cloud and required appliances are switched on remotely. The fire and smoke sensors detect the fire in the system and sends the data to the cloud and clouds sets the alarm to alert. If there is a temperature raise, cooler is turned on remotely. Relay can be used to switch on the electrical appliances accordingly.
RESULT:
After successfully connected to the cloud server monitoring and control electrical and electronic appliances of home is made passible from remote area through internet access by using desired IP address. It also useful to monitor the status of house along with its various appliances.
CONCLUSION:
Therefore, controlling and monitoring of house and its electric and electronic appliances are made possible from distance area through IOT and cloud computing along with simple circuits of sensors interfaced with intel Galileo board.
