Abstracts: In major engineering application, power transmission is essential. Universal shaft plays an important role to accomplish this task. It is able to transmit power from one drive to another drive which having either linear or angular offset. However, in actual industrial environment (Hot Strip Mill-ESSAR Steel Ltd, Hazira) where Universal Shaft is used to transmit power between motor and rolls, due to uneven loading and continuous water spray lubrication of Universal shaft & its elements(Like bearing, spline..) is inefficient which gives rise to the wear. These will make direct impact on either failure or drastically reduction in its life. So this IDP focuses on manufacturing of Universal shaft in-house and modify the design by proper engineering analysis technique to avoid the frequent failure of components those are too critical according to maintenance point of view with fulfilling the requirements of actual working during working of shaft.
