Incidence of brinjal wilt and their Management
ABSTRACT
Wilt complex are the major constraint in solanaceous vegetable crops. Among solanaceous vegetables, brinjal is an important crop extensively grown in Jammu and susceptible to fungal or bacterial wilt. An extensive survey was conducted at intensive vegetable growing pockets of Marh block and Akhnoor areas during 2009-2011. The incidence of disease was ranged from 20-42 per cent at both the locations. For managing this dreaded disease, experiments were conducted at Chatha Farm in four replications. Seedling dipping in 100 ppm streptocycline sulphate for half an hour and one drenching with 0.1% carbendazim was given to each field as a blanket treatment. Further, four treatments viz., one foliar spray with 0.1% carbendazim; two foliar sprays with 0.1% carbendazim; three foliar sprays with 0.1% carbendazim and water spray (control) were given after 10 days interval for evaluating the inhibition of wilt disease under HTMM project. Third treatment showed the maximum inhibition (68%) of bacterial/fungal wilt over control which was found to be statistically at par with second treatment.
