INTRODUCTION
In current scenario aircrafts and rockets are launched by creating air thrust by burning of fossil fuels which is depleting day by day.
Averages of 40% fuel consumed by these vehicles are used to overcome the gravitational force during the launching and safe landing.
By taking account of the increasing amount of fuel consumption we introduce Linear Motor Driven Launching Pad(LDLP) which can greatly reduce these fuel consumption.
WHAT IS LINEAR MOTOR..?
DC Linear motor are electric motors that produce motion in straight line rather than rotation motion
In a linear motor stator is unwrapped laid out flat. Rotor moves past it in a straight line.
WORKING
LDLP uses a linear motor, which uses electric currents to generate magnetic fields that propel a carriage down a track to launch the aircraft.
Speed required for the motor slide is achieved by suitably switching of stator windings.
Control circuit
used to excite the windings of the motor.
consists of 555 IC timer ,Ring counter, Power amplifying IC.
4 Pair 555 ICs are used for different speed.
Advantages
High speeds :The maximum speed of a linear motor is limited only by the applied voltage and the speed of the control electronics
Fast Response: The response rate of a linear motor driven device can be over 100 times that of a mechanical transmission. This means faster accelerations and settling times, thus more output.
Maintenance Free Operation: Because the linear motors have no brushes there is no wear.
DISADVANTAGES:
HIGH INSTALLATION COSTS: As number of windings increase with length.
HEATING: In most linear motor applications, the forcer is attached to the load. Any I2R losses are then directly coupled to the load. If an application is sensitive to heat, thermal management techniques need to be applied.
APPLICATIONS
Linear motors are used for baggage handling system at major airports across the world.
The linear induction motor system is used in roller coaster trains due to its low cost of maintenance.
Due to long-term operational reliability, this technology is used for people moving systems.
