Introduction:
This project of (library management system) gives us the complete information about the library. We can enter the record of new books and retrieve the details of books available in the library. We can issue the books to the students and maintain their records and can also check how many books are issued and stock available in the library. In this project we can maintain the late fine of students who returns the issued books after the due date.
The main functions of library management system are to provide resources and research support for students and faculty of the college. Specific course-related resources are usually provided by the library, such as copies of textbooks and article readings held on 'reserve' (meaning that they are loaned out only on a short-term basis, usually a matter of hours).
Nowadays all the businesses are shifting to computer based system. The purpose to having a computer based system is, it helps to increase the market share and it’s very easy for customers to use. It is increasing the demand among the customer. This project is concerned with developing a Library Inventory Management System using Object Oriented Programming. In this system the library management becomes more efficient & easier to handle with its reliable system components.
Introduction to organization:
Gordon College Rawalpindi was established as a school in 1893.
Gordon's college year is made up of annual system: in which the examination are held once every year. Enrollment at Gordon College is in thousands of students, with around hundreds living on campus. The college campus has many buildings, which includes a large stadium (used for hockey, football and cricket), basketball court, tennis courts, and badminton court. The college also has a large and historic auditorium.
Structure of organization:
1. Administration
2. Librarian
3. Asst librarian
4. Students
Information about Existing System:
Before the advent of computers, libraries usually used a card catalog to index their holdings. Computers came into use to automate the card catalog, thus the term automation system. Automation of the catalog saves the labor involved in resorting the card catalog, keeping it up-to-date with respect to the collection, etc. Other tasks automated include checking-out and checking-in books, generating statistics and reports, acquisitions and subscriptions, indexing journal articles and linking to them, as well as tracking interlibrary loans.
Since the late 1980s, windowing systems and multi-tasking have allowed the integration of business functions. Instead of having to open up separate applications, library staff could now use a single application with multiple functional modules.
Drawbacks in Existing System:
Many library systems are operated manually by group of people. In such situations many people involved in the process of managing the library such a way that to keep records regarding the books & students (borrowers), check the books manually, keep records on issued books etc. all these things have to be carried out manually & if the library is large in content handling is also a problem. On the other hand keeping large amount of maintenance workers may cost a lot & it will not be efficient for a library. Manual record keeping is also not a reliable method as people tend to forget things.
On the borrower’s point of view, in manual system borrower can’t find a book exactly at once as they are not ordered well. Sometimes user might be searching for a book that is not available in the library in such situations people get annoyed or depressed. Therefore there should be a reliable way to manage the library system.
Some of the problems being faced in manual system are as
Follows:
1. Fast report generation is not possible.
2. Tracing a book is difficult.
3. Information about issue/return of the books is not properly maintained.
4. No central database can be created as information is not available in database.
PROPOSED SYSTEM:
There will be three major components:
1. Stock maintenance.
2. Transaction entry.
3. Reports.
Proposed system provides with following solutions:
It provides "better and efficient" service to members.
Reduce the workload of employee.
Faster retrieval of information about the desired book.
Provide facility for proper monitoring reduces paper work and provide data security.
All details will be available on a click.
