Introduction to theorist
Madeleine Leininger was born in Sutton, Nebraska July 13, 1925.
She graduated from the School of Nursing at St Anthony in Denver
In 1954, she obtained a M.S.N. Psychiatric Nursing from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D. C.
PhD in Social and Cultural Anthropology.
She was a member of the Cadet Corps staff
She initiated the first clinical specialty program in child psychiatric nursing in the world.
Leininger initiated and led the first skilled nursing program in psychiatry at the University of Cincinnati and the Therapeutic Nursing Psychiatric University Hospital Center.

In 1960, she wrote one of her first basic texts in psychiatric nursing with C. Hofling, entitled Basic Concepts Psychiatric Nursing, which has been published in 11 languages and is used worldwide.

Her book entitled Transcultural Nursing: Concepts, Theories, Research, and Practice published in 1978, defined the main concepts, theoretical concepts and practical procedures transcultural nursing.
