Management of Banded leaf and sheath blight (BLSB) of Maize caused by Rhizoctonia solani f. sp. sasaki through different fungicides
ABSTRACT
Field experiment was conducted during kharif 2012-13 at AICRP Maize research station Udhampur to study the effect of different fungicides on disease severity of banded leaf and sheath blight of maize. Maize varieties viz. DHM-117, PMH-1, JH 3459 and Ujala Bisco were used for testing several fungicides viz,. carbendazim (Bavistin), Mancozeb (Dithane M45), Saaf (Dithane M 45+Bavistin), Ridomil (metalaxyl) and validiomycine @ 0.2% concentration. Under field conditions, Validiomycine was found most effective against Rhizoctonia solani followed by metalyxl, Saaf and Carbendazim. The application of seed treatment by Carbendazim @ 0.2% concentration also showed a significant decrease in disease severity. The application of chemicals showed an increase in yield of maize crop. Maximum percent increase in yield was observed in maize cultivars using foliar application of validiomycine.
