Management of Phytophthora Blight in Tomato
ABSTRACT
Phytophthora blight has been identified as a major limiting factor in tomato production throughout the country especially during rainy season. The problem has been reported to be more intensive in water logged areas. An experiment was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of different practices for the management of phytophthora blight in tomato. Observations revealed that crop treated with Ridomil MZ (0.25%) gave best control of the disease with only 9 per cent infestation whereas crop planted on ridges and control plot recorded infestation of 35 and 52 per cent, respectively. Ridomil MZ treated crop gave yield of 224 q/ha with a B:C ratio of 4.02. Control plot recorded an yield of 120 q/ha with B:C ratio of 2.5. A considerable control of disease was observed in crop planted on ridges which recorded an yield of 162 q/ha giving a return of Rs 3.11 for every one rupee invested (B:C = 3.11).
