Introduction Of Solar Updraft Tower
Solar Updraft Towers are like an inverted funnel, sometimes also called 'solar chimney' or just solar tower.
The large scale solar towers ( ≥ 100 MW) are capable of generating electricity at costs comparable to those of conventional power plants .
It is possible to produce electricity using solar system without concentration of sunlight. The Solar Updraft Tower is a large-scale solar thermal power plant (30-200MW).
Functional Principle
It combines three old and proven technologies ,the chimney effect, green house effect and wind turbine.
Air is heated by sunshine and contained in a very large greenhouse-like structure known as collector, around the base of a tall chimney, and the resulting convection causes rising airflow to rise through the tower.
The air current from the greenhouse up the chimney drives turbines, which produce electricity
