Abstracts: In this report we study about the uses of various numerical relays, which are adopted in GETCO. Today in the world of rapid development in technology, the protection is necessary for all the electrical system. After suitable research a good option for the protection, the relays are much prefer. Modern electrical power system catering heavy energy demands are spread over extensive areas and contains a several major component like as generators, transformers, transmission and distribution lines, motors etc. It is evident that in spite of all precautions taken in design and installation of such systems there are bound to arise abnormal condition or fault which damage to not only the faulty component but to the neighboring component. Fault cannot be avoided completely. They can be minimized. Protective relaying placed an important role in minimizing the fault, also in minimising the damage in the event of fault. The purpose of protective relays and protective relaying system is to be operate the correct circuit breakers, so as to disconnect only the faulty part from the system as quickly as possible. Thus minimizing the truble and damage caused by fault, when they do occour. In older days we used the relay like; electro dynamic relays, static relays. They are work as protective coil, which used to trip the circuit braker, as the time pass the modifiacation of relay it comes through the micro-processor based relay. In now days the best relay for the protection preferred by any system is one and only numerical relay. This type of relays are solved the problem much quicker than any other relay, it becomes a protection system simple and secure.
